The ongoing series of MARQUEE image and text paintings are documents of research into the compositions of cultural narratives and behave as supplements to live performances. Initially each statement was extracted from existing theatre scripts, film dialogue, song lyrics and literature- the popular writings that continue to influence structures of contemporary communication and thought. The newer marquee paintings cite Oyer's own writings, specifically the lyrics from his musical album RELEASE. The images function like a hand painted sign of some truism or spell: an abstracted omen or a playful, fleeting promise.
