Miss Beverly Shaw, Sir!

For the latest chapter in their ongoing CALLING ALL DIVAS manifesto (2014-), which activates the body as a conduit for intergenerational queer dialogues, Tyler Matthew Oyer recreates a night at Club Laurel, a lesbian cabaret venue in North Hollywood owned by Beverly Shaw (1909-1990) from 1957-1971. In the late 1950s or early 1960s, Shaw produced an album titled "Songs Tailored to Your Taste." The album includes her signature song, "Honeysuckle Rose," and was released on her own label Club Laurel Records. Shaw's papers are held at the ONE Archives at USC and is part of the Queer Music Heritage project.

This performance was curated by Eric Solis and Robin Abad on the occasion of the GCDN 2025 Convening in Los Angeles and took place in Gloria Molina Grand Park in front of city hall.
